Behind the art
“The “band-aid ring” is a 15-year old idea of mine that I finally executed last summer when I was making my brother’s wedding ring. A lot of my sculpture has to do with shifting the material of a familiar object so it might collide with another idea and deepen the object’s truth. By commemorating a wound with a precious metal, I wanted to make our cuts iconic. These designs hopefully render not only band-aids but thimbles, honest wedding bands, armor, protectors of our human injuries and in the end, I hope contain a bit of bittersweet humor."
